Green Spring Health Services, Inc. recently named Sunday June Pickens, M.D., as vice president of physician services, where she will supervise medical directors of several local Green Spring operations.

Dr. Pickens additionally serves as the medical director of Green Spring's national on-call services (where close to half of Green Spring's admissions are reviewed), and the training of physician advisors. For the past six years, Dr. Pickens has worked as a private contractor for Green Spring, serving as interim medical director for the Rhode Island, Western Pennsylvania and Georgia operations.

Before joining Green Spring, Dr. Pickens was president of Pickens Comprehensive Health Services, a health care company serving the inmate population of the Baltimore City Jail. Dr. Pickens also has worked for almost 10 years in direct clinical educational and administrative positions for the state of Maryland at Springfield and Spring Grove Hospital Centers.

She is a board member of Friends Psychiatric Research Associates; is the past president of the Black Psychiatrists of America, Maryland Chapter, past president of Maryland Black Faculty and Staff, an examiner for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and a member of the American Psychiatric Association and Southern Psychiatric Association. Dr. Pickens received her B.S. degree from Temple University. She earned both her M.Ed. and M.D. degrees from the University of Maryland. While in residency at the University of Maryland's Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behavior, she was selected as a Falk Fellow and is the recipient of the Brody Award.
